Journey Part 2

Welcome back everyone, I am glad you joined me.
Let me see to recap my story, the time was 1990 and I am ready to have our first born. However, before I continue lets take a trip back on what was happening then and why things changed for me.

Iraqi troops invade Kuwait, setting off the Persian Gulf War.

In July 1990, President Hussein asserted spurious territorial claims on Kuwaiti land. A mediation attempt by Arab leaders failed, and on Aug. 2, 1990, Iraqi troops invaded Kuwait and set up a puppet government. The UN unsuccessfully imposed trade sanctions against Iraq to compel withdraw. On Jan. 18, 1991, UN forces, under the leadership of U.S. general Norman Schwarzkopf, launched the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), liberating Kuwait in less than a week.

Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait in 1990 and tried to retreat before a massive, US-led coalition. Their abandoned vehicles are pictured outside Kuwait City

This was my pivotal moment in my life. My world as I knew it was coming to a screeching halt. My thoughts were, this is crazy, you have to be joking, we are about to have a baby, my husband can't go. How can this be? Why is this happening, better yet why is this happening to me.  Never in a million years did I think that one man could ever change my world from 7095 miles away, but he did. I felt angry and cheated and there was nothing I could do to change this or so I thought. Everything was out of my control, my due date, our joyous moment that was supposed to have together, our plans, our future, gone, just as fast as everything started, in a blinking of the eye, my world turn upside down.

How did the Gulf War effect your life?

  1. Other than your husband having to go over there, it did not touch me too much personally. I did live in fear of being reactivated since I think I was still on inactive reserve.
