FOR CENTER-BASED

Quality Rating Systems and National Accreditation

Child Care providers to work on a national accreditation or a state quality rating. These voluntary quality indicators can help families identify quality care. Accredited or rated programs have fewer children per classroom, staff with training in child development, safe and healthy environments and quality curriculum and administrative practices.

These national organizations measure programs against national best-practice standards. See which programs in our area are rated, or learn how your program can become rated!

Professional Development

Professional Development for Early Childhood Educators and
Youth Development Professionals

Because the education level of early childhood teachers has been linked with quality care in numerous research studies, Child Care Services Association (CCSA) offers a variety of professional development opportunities to support high-quality services and actively encourages providers to enroll in early childhood courses at local community colleges or universities.
CCSA produces a professional development calendar which describes not only CCSA’s workshops, but also workshops offered by other organizations in our local communities. CCSA sponsors the annual statewide A.S.K. Conference (Advancing Skills and Knowledge), formerly A Day for Day Care, in collaboration with Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. This all-day event, presented in late January, hosts over 100 sessions during three different time slots, plus keynote speakers who address current child care issues. Continuing education units (CEUs) are available on specialized topics for early childhood educators, school age and youth development professionals and administrators.
